Osun Crisis: Adeleke visits warring Ifon, Ilobu communities
After the communal clash between Ifon of Orolu Local Government Area and Ilobu of Irepodun Council, Governor Ademola Adeleke on Monday inspected the affected areas of the communities.
The Nation reports that over 100,000 residents were displaced, lives lost and over N2billon property destroyed during the clash with the two communities which later extended to Erin-Osun over land dispute.
Adeleke imposed a 24-hour curfew on the communities and handed over warning letter of dethronement to their kings.
On Monday, Adeleke with some members of his cabinet conducted on-the-spot assessment of the warring the communities, which lasted for about two hours.
The Governor and his entourage toured Ilobu, Ifon, and Erin.
There were countless numbers of empty bullet shell in affected areas as most houses around the market areas of Ilobu were razed down.
Most residents of Ilobu have moved to the boundary of Okini via Ojutu bridge, a neighbouring town to the warring communities, as they stood beside the road lamenting the level of destruction.
Speaking with journalists after the assessment, Adeleke condemned the level of destruction in the communities, lamenting that such crisis will give the the entire state negative image.
He said: “We have gone around and as you can see there are security operatives in every places. The curfew imposed has been very effective because we went around all three communities of Ilobu, Ifon, and Erin Osun.
“I am happy that the whole place is calm now and I want to commend security agencies for up and doing to ensure lasting peace.”
He continued: “This crisis has lingered for a long and when I first came in as the Governor, I told when they are fighting there will be no development in the town, people will be scared of coming here. They will not come to Osun State not knowing that it is just a section of the community, they will run away.
“We have put a lot of things in place and by the special grace of God, peace will be permanent. I have given a directive that all the culprits be brought to book.
“I am not going to take nonsense anymore because it’s getting too much, my people are dying, houses are being burnt and that is not acceptable.”
Osun Police spokesperson, SP Adeola Adeoye confirmed: “So far, three suspects have been arrested in breach of the curfew armed with a Dane gun.
“Thorough investigation will be conducted and suspects would be charged to court for prosecution accordingly. The Command is equally monitoring the situation closely with a view to fishing out all the trouble makers and their sponsors to ensure that they face the wrath of the law.”
Qatar authorities have arrested more than 300 people for sharing images and what officials described as “misleading information” during recent attacks by Iran, according to the country’s interior ministry.
The arrests come amid heightened tensions across the Gulf as Iran has targeted airports, military bases, energy facilities and residential areas with drones and missile strikes.
In a statement, the Ministry of Interior of Qatar said those detained had filmed and circulated video clips and published rumours that could influence public opinion. The statement said the suspects were arrested for “filming and circulated video clips and published misleading information and rumours that could stir public opinion.”
Authorities said the individuals were of various nationalities and were detained by the General Directorate of Criminal Investigations through its Department for Combating Economic and Cyber Crimes. Similar measures have also been reported elsewhere in the Gulf region.
In Bahrain, authorities said four people were arrested for “filming and broadcasting clips about the effects of Iranian attacks and spreading false news.” Meanwhile in Kuwait, officials confirmed the arrest of three individuals after a video circulated showing them mocking the security situation in the country.
Residents in the United Arab Emirates have also received text messages warning that sharing sensitive images or reposting unverified information about attacks could lead to legal consequences. The UAE Attorney General’s Office warned citizens and residents against filming or sharing footage of attack sites or damage caused by falling missiles or debris, according to the Emirates News Agency.
Authorities in Saudi Arabia have issued similar warnings. Despite these restrictions, images and videos showing missiles, drones and the impact of the ongoing conflict continue to circulate widely on social media and messaging platforms.
The United States has issued a warning about a potential threat to its facilities and schools in Nigeria, advising Americans to be cautious.
The alert was released by the US Embassy in Abuja on Monday, urging citizens to stay alert, avoid predictable routines, and review safety measures with their families.
The embassy did not provide details about the origin of the threat.
“The US embassy in Abuja informs US citizens of a possible terrorist threat against US facilities and US affiliated schools in Nigeria,” it said in a notice.
“Increasing awareness of your surroundings, avoiding predictable routines, and reviewing general security precautions with your family can help reduce your risk,” the statement read.
This warning comes amid escalating global tensions linked to the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran,
The Nigerian government has already placed Nigerian embassies in the Middle East on high alert as it monitors the situation and implements protective measures for its citizens overseas.
The government has also released emergency numbers for Nigerians abroad to reach their missions amid rising tensions.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the emergency contacts were provided to enable Nigerians living in or travelling across the Middle East to quickly reach diplomatic missions for assistance as tensions escalate in the conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
Senator representing Osun West, Lere Oyewumi, has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Accord Party.
Oyewumi, elected on the platform of the PDP in the 2023 general elections, was the last PDP senator in Osun State following earlier defections of Olubiyi Fadeyi and Francis Fadahunsi to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The state PDP had also lost three House of Representatives members to the APC in 2025.
Despite the defection of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to the Accord Party in December 2025, Oyewumi remained in the PDP until now.
His move followed recent shifts by six state House of Representatives members to Accord and 25 members of the Osun State House of Assembly reuniting with the governor in the party.
Announcing the defection, Oyewumi’s media aide, Timileyin Popoola, said the senator formally registered as a member of Accord at Ward 9 in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area, where he was welcomed by the Osun State Chairman of Accord, Victor Akande, and other party leaders.
The statement explained that Oyewumi’s defection followed his resignation from the PDP due to irreconcilable differences within the party and a desire to better serve his constituents.
“Oyewumi’s move underscores his commitment to effective representation, responsive leadership, and policies that promote meaningful development for the people of Osun State,” the statement added, praising his dedication and sense of responsibility throughout his tenure in the Senate.
