Okonjo-Iweala, Tems Listed Among ‘100 Most Notable Peace Icons in Africa’

Grammy Award-winning Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, and Director-General, World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, have been listed in the 2025 ‘100 Most Notable Peace Icons Africa’.

The list, which contained several eminent Nigerians and other Africans from different sectors, was announced at the ‘Unveiling News Conference’ by the organisers on Wednesday in Abuja.

Egyptian football star, Egyptian footballer Mohammed Salah of Liverpool FC, is also on the list.

Other recipients of the peace icon recognition across Africa include Nigerian businessman Femi Oyetola, Dr Angel Josephat Natianota, Chief Executive Officer, HR World Limited Tanzania, Dr Abdelhak Najib and Dr Imane Kendili (Morocco).

Prof Mthuli Ncube, Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, Zimbabwe, and Munyakazi Sadate, Chief Executive Officer, Karame Rwanda Group, among others, are also on the list.

Amb. Kingsley Amafibe, Project Director Africa, 100 Most Notable Peace Icons Africa, said they made the list for their commitment to courses that promote development and peace.

According to Amafibe, the peace icons are Africans drawn from different backgrounds, who have used their talents, positions and resources to build and promote peace across the continent.

He explained that those who made the list were selected based on their commitment to humanitarian initiatives, positive influence on communities and youth empowerment, among other criteria.

“This initiative stands as a testament to our commitment to acknowledging and applauding remarkable individuals and the key roles they play in nurturing peace, harmony, and positive change on the African continent.

“These individuals have showcased unwavering resilience and commitment to nurturing new leaders, fueling economic growth, and uplifting positive changes across various sectors

“By sharing their narratives, our intention is to amplify the ripples of their endeavors, produce a collective resolve to foster a more calm and prosperous Africa.

“Within this illustrious roster of 100 Most Notable Peace Icons in Africa, we encounter a rich shade of leaders, economists, financial experts, sports personalities, religious leaders, industrialists, entertainment entrepreneurs and traditional rulers.

“They have transcended boundaries and overcome challenges to leave inerasable legacies, with each narrative as a tribute to perseverance and determination, enclosed in the cherished values of Africa – unity, harmony, and progress,” he said.

The 2025 Peace Icons will receive the award at the ‘100 Most Notable Africans Leadership and Business Summit’ scheduled for July in Kigali, Rwanda.

The event, themed ‘Leadership Frameworks for Governance, Business Growth, Investment opportunities and Sustainable Development in Africa’, will bring together economic experts, government officials, entrepreneurs, policymakers and other stakeholders to foster inclusive discussions on Africa’s economic growth

Amafibe said Africa is currently experiencing its share of global economic challenges, and stakeholders needed to embrace open dialogue to foster collaboration and partnerships essential for achieving economic growth.

“Africa, with its diverse people, landscapes and dynamic population, presents a compelling invitation, and this event is a dynamic platform for us to come together and explore significant trends, challenges, and opportunities for collaborations.

“This will help to create an environment conducive for investment opportunities, promoting communication and collaboration among leaders.

“The summit will feature insightful lectures, high impact networking, and engaging panel discussions which will ensure stable political campaigns with transparent governance, which will build investors’ confidence.

“It will also promote cross-border initiatives that allow nations to share best practices in areas like agriculture, education, and health.

Osun guber: Davido angry over plot to deregister Accord Party

Popular Nigerian Afrobeat musician, David Adeleke, also known as Davido, has raised alarm over an alleged plot to deregister Accord party ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State.

The singer made the claim a post on X on Thursday.

Why questioning reasons for the deregistration, Davido called for free and fair election.

He wrote; “Deregister Accord party for what? Cowards let’s go to the field.”

This is coming 48 hours after the singer called out Gboyega Oyetola, the minister of Marine and Blue Economy, and the immediate past governor of the state over alleged desperate plan.

Recall that Osun State’s current governor and Davido’s uncle, Ademola Adeleke, announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in December 2025 following the party’s national leadership crisis and legal dispute and joined Accord Party for his re-election.

The Osun State governorship election is scheduled for August 15, 2026.

Temi Otedola has announced that she is expecting her first child with her husband, singer Mr Eazi.

In a post via Instagram on Thursday, Temi shared a video of herself in a white two-piece dress, proudly showing off her baby bump.

In the accompanying caption, she quoted a biblical verse, expressing faith in God’s protection over her unborn child.

Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born, in set you apart,” she wrote.

Fans and colleagues have taken to the post’s comment section to congratulate the expecting parents.

Joining the comment section is Temi’s sister, DJ Cuppy, who expressed joy at becoming an aunt.

I’m going to be an auntyyy,” she wrote.

The pregnancy announcement comes a few months after Eazi dismissed claims that he had already welcomed his first child with Temi.

Recall that the couple’s romance began in 2017 when they started dating.

They got engaged in April 2023.

In August 2025, Mr Eazi and Temi tied the knot in a private wedding ceremony at Hallgrímskirkja in Reykjavik, Iceland.

In an exclusive feature with Vogue Magazine, the couple released their wedding photos and revealed that they held ceremonies in three countries: Monaco, Dubai, and Iceland.

According to the couple, their court wedding took place on May 9 in Monaco, their traditional wedding was held on July 5 in Dubai, while the white wedding was held in Iceland.

Following the high-profile wedding, Temi, the daughter of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, also updated her social media bio to reflect her marital status by adopting her husband’s surname, Ajibade.

Nollywood actress Sharon Ooja has announced the arrival of her baby boy, expressing deep gratitude to God, her husband, family, and friends for their support throughout her pregnancy journey.

The actress shared the news in an emotional post on her Instagram page on Wednesday, where she described her newborn son as “the most handsome baby boy I have ever seen.”

She wrote: “I just gave birth to the most handsome baby boy I have ever seen. I’m still so overwhelmed with joy and gratitude. 2025/2026… God truly ushered me into the most beautiful years of my life and wrote a story that only He can take the glory for. Pregnancy made me understand God’s love in such a deeper way, unconditional, intentional, and impossible to fully explain.”

Reflecting on scripture and her journey, she added: “His Word says, ‘Your wife will be like a fruitful grapevine, and your children like olive shoots around your table.’ And wow. God really did it in his perfect timing. You are truly a merciful God.”

Appreciating her husband, she wrote: “And to my husband, thank you for loving me so fiercely beautifully through every stage of our pregnancy. The prayers, reassurance, back rubs, trips, baths, endless gifts, food runs and the way you carried me emotionally and spiritually these past 9 months… baby, you are truly everything. Me, Win, and Zoey are so blessed to have you.

Sharon Ooja also thanked loved ones for respecting their privacy, saying: “Thank you to my family and friends for protecting our peace and allowing this journey to stay private, and off social media just as we requested, it was soft, and I genuinely enjoyed every bit of my pregnancy.”

She concluded with joy over her son’s name: “Our lives have changed forever. ‘W.I.N’ that’s his initials. I’ve always dreamed of being a mummy, and now I finally am. You can officially call me mama win, the yummiest mummy on the block and we officially back!! Thank You God.”
