Ayodele Omidina, first wife of the late Yoruba comic actor Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe, has disclosed the reason they parted ways.
Ayodele, in her interview with Kunle Afod, revealed that the late actor “abandoned” her after his marriage to fellow actress Omoladun.
She mentioned that even with all her efforts and support from others, Baba Suwe never offered any explanation for walking away from their marriage.
“It’s true, Baba Suwe abandoned me after he married Omoladun. He didn’t give any explanation despite several people going to meet him for reconciliation,” she said.
“So I accepted my fate. However, he still took care of his kids.”
When speaking about how they met, Ayodele — who began her acting career in 1979, said, “We have been together before he (Baba Suwe) started acting. I was still in school when he said he wanted to marry me.”
Ayodele also opened up about how the separation impacted her acting career, stating that Baba Suwe hindered her opportunities by telling filmmakers she was nothing more than a housewife.
“I stopped featuring in movies after we separated, but I wasn’t hurt that people stopped calling me for roles because that was something Baba Suwe had already put in place,” she added.
“He used to tell people that they couldn’t cast me all the time because I was a full housewife. That mindset stuck with many of them, which is why they still don’t reach out for movie roles. However, I’m still interested.”
Baba Suwe was born on August 22, 1958, and passed away on November 22, 2021.
In her tribute, Ayodele described her late husband as a highly determined individual who valued hard work and remained committed to whatever he set out to achieve.
“I married ‘Baba Suwe’ when he was nobody, there was nothing with him then, so, I knew him very well as a very determined person that wanted to be a great man despite all odds,” she had said.
Omoladun, known for her work in comedy, died in September 2009.

Daniels said having a female child brings a different and more profound understanding of being a mother.
“The last time I saw my children was last year. I know one day, I’ll see them again, very soon. But for some reason I have checked my mind out of getting married but I’m yet to have a girl and I must have a girl child. I feel like you’d understand motherhood better when you have a girl child”, she said.
In October last year, she parted ways with her husband, Ned Nwoko, following a public disagreement.
