Billionaire Gates reveals 62-Year-Old Girlfriend, As He Confirms He Has A ‘Serious Girlfriend’
By Kayode Sanni-Arewa
Bill Gates has finally confirmed his new romance with his ‘serious girlfriend’ just weeks after he revealed that his divorce from ex-wife Melinda French Gates was his worst mistake ever.
Recall that the former tech power couple tied the knot in 1994, welcomed three kids into the world, and then divorced in May 2021 after 27 years of marriage.
Since then, 69-year-old Bill has been spotted several times throughout the last few years with 62-year-old Paula Hurd, the widow of former Oracle CEO, Mark Hurd.
But it wasn’t until Tuesday that the billionaire co-founder of Microsoft got candid about his love life during an appearance on The Today Show.
‘I’m lucky to have a serious girlfriend named Paula,’ he said. ‘So we’re having fun, going to the Olympics and lots of great things.’
‘I’m more cheerful now,’ Bill said during an interview with British newspaper The Times in December. ‘That was the mistake I most regret
The billionaire also spoke of his ex-wife’s resignation from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation last year – one of the largest charitable institutions in the world – and how he didn’t only lose his partner, but their joint book club, his meditation buddy and walking partner.
‘You would have to put that at the top of the list,’ Bill told The Times. ‘There are others but none that matter. The divorce thing was miserable for me and Melinda for at least two years.’
Hurd, who bears a striking resemblance to Melinda, is the widow of former Oracle co-CEO and president Mark Hurd, who died at the age of 62 in 2019 after a reported battle with cancer.
Once a tech executive herself, Hurd is now an event planner organizer, and philanthropist.
Her late husband, who spent most of his career at tech company NCR and later Hewlett-Packard before joining Oracle in 2010, had an estimated net worth of $ 500 million at the time of his death.
Although there was growing speculation into the pair’s blossoming connection, DailyMail.com exclusively revealed in 2023 that Bill had found love again two years after his divorce from his wife of 27 years.
In January of 2023, Bill was spotted in Australia with Hurd, who was a mystery woman then.
Together, the pair were captured checking out the sights of Sydney outside of the city’s famed Opera House.
The two appeared to be taking a stroll around the city as they stopped to admire the panoramic views of the harbor.
It’s no surprise that the paths of the Microsoft founder and Oracle executive – both prominent Silicon Valley figures – and his wife had crossed over the years.
Since then, the love birds have been photographed together at the 2024, Olympics, a Baylor University basketball game, and on the red carpet.
The pair were also pictured at last year’s so-called billionaire’s summer camp in Sun Valley, Idaho, where they were joined by fellow power couple Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez.
While Bill seems to be in the happy honeymoon stage, he admitted that he wouldn’t change a thing about the past, explaining how his marriage to Melinda kept him grounded, The Times reported.
‘There is a certain wonderfulness to spending your entire adult life with one person because of the memories and depth of things you have done and having kids together,’ he told the outlet.
‘When Melinda and I met, I was fairly successful but not ridiculously successful – that came during the time that we were together. So, she saw me through a lot.’
Although he called the divorce ‘tough’ while adding how he was ‘disappointed’ when Melinda left the foundation to pursue other philanthropic opportunities, he said how the pair still see each other and make time for their kids and two grandchildren together.
The Microsoft co-founder spoke to NBC morning news show about his previous comments – specifically calling his divorce his ‘biggest regret’ – where he clarified that he wasn’t saying he wished the split with Melinda would have happened, USA Today reported.
‘Although the divorce wasn’t great, having those three kids, the work we were able to do together – even if I knew that it wouldn’t last forever, I would still do it again,’ he said.
My business career, though, there’s been some ups and downs, has been incredibly phenomenal,’ he added. ‘My kids are phenomenal. So it’s even hard for me to complain about things.’
‘I’ve moved past the divorce, and Melinda’s doing well. I’ve got a lot of work that I love to do. So I’m not really complaining about anything.’
Melinda has also previously opened up about their ‘unbelievably painful’ divorce and explained that she ‘just couldn’t stay in that marriage anymore.’
The philanthropist told Fortune magazine in October of 2024 that the Covid-19 pandemic helped give her the ‘privacy to do what she needed to do.’
She also said in 2021 that her husband’s affair with a Microsoft employee in 2000 had broken the ‘trust’ in their marriage.
‘Well, I certainly believe in forgiveness, so I thought we had worked through some of that,’ Melinda told the Wall Street Journal when asked about the alleged infidelity.
‘It wasn’t one moment or one specific thing that happened,’ she added.
‘There just came a point in time where there was enough there that I realized it just wasn’t healthy, and I couldn’t trust what we had.’
Intermixed with Gates’ extramarital liaisons is scrutiny around his relationship with Epstein, the pedophile financier who took his own life in 2019 while jailed on charges of sex trafficking minors.
Bill insisted that the pair never had ‘any business relationship or friendship’ and their meetings were solely to discuss philanthropic ventures.
But Melinda said her ex-husband’s closeness to the predator put considerable strain on the marriage.
The Gates’ divorce settlement is America’s second-most expensive ever after Bezos’ $38.3billion split with ex-wife MacKenzie Bezos.
Although Bill and Hurd’s relationship is now public and, of course, ‘serious’, Melinda has also reportedly found a new man.
Melinda shockingly revealed her relationship with tech mogul Philip Vaughn in October 2024 as she was seen with the Seattle-based entrepreneur as they went to dinner in New York City.
Despite going through an ‘unbelievably painful’ divorce with Bill, Melinda put tensions aside when it came to Philip, who used to work at her ex’s company.
The pair’s sightings only heightened throughout 2024, though specific details surrounding their relationship timeline remain private.
Their relationship reflects their shared interests – innovation, business and the overall navigation of life after significant career and personal changes.
As for Bill’s new memoir, he told Today that the process of revisiting his early years was surprising as he ‘doesn’t look back much.’
‘This year, I turn 70, Microsoft turns 50, and so I thought, OK, I should share what luck I had to have amazing parents, you know, the way they let me go out and hike and try new things,’ he said.
‘I was just unbelievably lucky,’ he added. ‘And you know, that’s why Microsoft ended up being so successful.’

Rescue eight Benue bus kidnap victims identified as UTME candidates
Fresh details have emerged following the rescue of passengers abducted from a Benue Links bus, with at least eight of the victims now confirmed to be candidates of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The victims were reportedly on their way to Otukpo to sit for the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) when they were kidnapped by gunmen last Wednesday night.
The attack occurred on April 15, 2026, when armed assailants intercepted a state-owned Benue Links vehicle transporting passengers along a major route in the state. Several travellers, including young students, were forcefully taken into captivity during the incident.
After spending about three days in the hands of their abductors, the victims regained their freedom in the early hours of Sunday. Details surrounding their release remain unclear, including whether a ransom was paid.
Among those rescued were three female UTME candidates, highlighting the vulnerability of students traveling for national examinations in parts of the country facing security challenges.
The victims were subsequently taken to the Benue State Government House in Makurdi by the Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari. They were accompanied by their parents and guardians for an official reception.
At the Government House, Governor Hyacinth Alia received the rescued passengers as part of efforts to reassure the public and demonstrate the state government’s response to the incident.
Observers noted that the victims appeared visibly weak and shaken after their ordeal, as officials commenced documentation and briefing processes ahead of formal engagement with the state authorities.
The revelation that some of the abducted passengers were UTME candidates contradicts earlier statements from authorities, which suggested that none of those kidnapped were examination-bound students.
This development has raised questions about the accuracy of initial reports and the broader security situation affecting candidates traveling for critical national exams.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the risks faced by Nigerians, particularly students, who must travel across states to participate in examinations like the UTME.
Security experts have repeatedly called for improved protection along major highways and special arrangements to ensure the safety of candidates during nationwide examinations.

BREAKING: Ex-Kano gov, Ibrahim Shekarau goes back to APC
Ex- Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, has defected from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party and rejoined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Shekarau announced his defection on Sunday at his residence on Mundubawa Avenue in Kano, which was decorated with APC posters.
As reported by Daily Trust, he left the party alongside Senator Bello Hayatu Gwarzo, a chieftain of the PDP.
Addressing party loyalists, Shekarau said the decision followed wide consultations and careful consideration of available political options.
“We have weighed all the options and arrived at this collective resolution. Do you all agree?” he asked, urging anyone opposed to the move to speak up.
The move comes hours after he submitted his resignation letter from the PDP.
In the letter dated April 19, 2026, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Giginyu Ward in Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, Shekarau said his exit took immediate effect.
“Accept this letter please as notice of my resignation from my position as member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with effect from today,” he wrote.
He expressed appreciation to party leadership at the ward level.
“I thank you for being a good leader, and pray that Allah will continue to guide you in your stewardship,” he added.
The letter was also copied to the Kano State PDP Chairman and the PDP Chairman of Nassarawa Local Government Area, indicating formal notification across party structures.
Shekarau’s move follows months of speculation fuelled by the PDP’s internal crisis.
In April, during a visit by APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, Shekarau hinted at his impending exit from the PDP, describing the opposition party as afflicted by problems that had rendered it ineffective.
He also held closed-door meetings with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf.
Shekarau, who governed Kano State from 2003 to 2011 under the All Nigeria Peoples Party, has a history of party switches.
He was a founding member of the APC but later defected.
He left the PDP in 2018 and returned to the APC before he later crossed carpet.

Hardship Not a Licence for Broken Homes – Abejide Tells Couples
By Gloria Ikibah
A member of the House of Representatives, Rep. Leke Abejide, has cautioned Nigerians against allowing economic strain to fracture their marriages, urging couples to remain grounded in shared values despite mounting pressures.
Speaking in Abuja during a thanksgiving service marking his wife’s 50th birthday alongside their 20th wedding anniversary, the Kogi lawmaker stressed that difficult times should not erode family stability.
He emphasised that enduring relationships are sustained through love, patience and mutual respect, noting that strong homes are built on understanding and a shared commitment to faith.
Abejide underscored the importance of staying united through hardship, warning that financial challenges, though real, should not outweigh the deeper foundations that hold families together.
“You sustain marriage with love as it is written in the book of Ephesians Chapter 5 — husbands should love their wives and wives should submit to their husbands. This principle has been working for us,” he said.
Abejide observed that despite widespread complaints about economic challenges, many Nigerians continue to make significant investments.
He said: “My message to Nigerians is: don’t allow hunger and hardship to take away your marriage. Let God be your foundation. When you have God, things will fall into place.
“You see people building houses, they say there is no money. You see estates springing up, people buying vehicles and travelling abroad. So we must not allow temporary hardship to destroy our homes,” he said.
In her remark, Deaconess Esther Abejide credited the strength of her two-decade marriage to a foundation built on patience, mutual understanding and genuine affection.
Reflecting on the journey, she highlighted the central role of faith and sacrifice in sustaining a lasting union.
“The secret is love and understanding. Couples must understand each other, know what their partner likes and dislikes. With that, the marriage will last.
“With God in the marriage, through prayer and even fasting, it will stand,” she said.
Speaking on balancing life as the spouse of a public office holder with her religious commitments, she described the experience as smooth and fulfilling, noting that her natural disposition has made the transition easier.
“It is easy for me because I love people and I am always happy to be around them, so it has not been difficult to cope,” she said.
Also at the event, Senator Sunday Karimi shared a hopeful outlook on the country’s economic trajectory, urging Nigerians to remain patient as reforms under President Bola Tinubu continue to unfold.
“There is hope. There is a renewed hope. Let me tell you what is happening, we are graduating from an economy that has no direction. When the country starts printing money, it’s a fake country. That was what was happening.
“But Tinubu came and said no. Let’s run a perfect economy. It’s not been easy. But I can promise you, we are moving to the promised land. Our economy is getting better. Don’t mind the borrowing they are talking about. Check the US and their debt. It’s in trillions of dollars but the economy is running well.
“Look at Lagos. Lagos is a shining example of a state that we ought to look up to in Nigeria. That is what Tinubu is doing for us. We need to be patient. Nigeria is getting better. By God’s grace, he is coming back to continue the work he is doing”, he said.
Karimi dismissed opposition coalition efforts, describing the actors as “the same old politicians” with nothing new to offer the country.
The celebration drew a mix of political allies, relatives and close friends, all turning out to mark the couple’s milestone. The occasion was further highlighted by the presentation of an 18-seater bus to the church as part of the festivities.
