The remarks made by social activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly called VeryDarkMan (VDM), on the death of reality star Phyna’s sister led to a sharp divide among Nigerians across social media platforms, with many condemning his comments while others defended his position.

In his video, VeryDarkMan accused Phyna of “greed” for demanding financial compensation of up to one billion naira instead of prioritising urgent medical care. He also declared that he would no longer pursue his earlier vow to hold Dangote accountable over the matter.

The reaction online has been swift and polarised.

For some, the activist’s words were deeply insensitive. User @Adukeadexoxo wrote: “So you’re blaming Phyna for her sister’s death? That’s wickedness! How dare you speak on someone’s pain like it’s gossip material?”

Another critic, @Cryptobuddiee, warned about the mental toll on Phyna: “She just lost a sister. Why not wait for her to recover from the shock and then say your side? Imagine she gets fed up and unalives herself.”

Others outrightly asked him to remain silent. @Venom tweeted: “VDM should just shut up. They are still mourning the deceased, you’re here spitting sh!t.”

Similarly, @OlayinkaAj77004 noted: “Must he talk? This is not necessary at all. He should allow her grief in peace.”

But not everyone condemned him. Some users defended his bluntness, insisting that VDM was exposing uncomfortable truths.

@Affiliate_write commented: “All he’s after is for the betterment of this country and the voice of the voiceless. Some of you saying bad words about him cannot do half of what he’s doing.”

@kelvin_akproko added: “If a Nigerian doesn’t like you, no amount of good you do will make him like you. And if you speak against someone he likes, he will dislike you for life.”

Others said Phyna was wrong to push financial demands at such a critical time. @Mr_DaveChigozie argued: “Phyna no allow her follow up her sister’s health seriously. She was after getting the one billion naira compensation. Life is worth more than money but human greed doesn’t think about life.”

Another supporter, @Symplyell, backed the activist: “He’s right. She was busy chasing one billion while her sister was on life support.”

However, critics accused VeryDarkMan of seeking clout. @theeayomikun wrote: “VDM turned this issue to a personal thing. Bro is just for himself at the end of the day.”

Some went further to link his intervention to political interests. @DayGenius alleged: “Dangote don bankroll this VDM. But Nigerians are blind to it. So you won’t fight for the dead just because her sister was moving the way you don’t like. Liar.”

Others, like @Doninlagos, said he was simply addicted to being in the spotlight: “All situations don’t revolve around you. You can’t always be at the center of every situation. Shut up for once and let the family grieve.”

The debate shows no sign of slowing, with VeryDarkMan’s critics branding him “heartless” while his supporters insist he remains one of the few who challenge powerful interests.

Nigerian reality TV star and former Big Brother Naija winner, Phyna, has responded strongly to the backlash surrounding her decision not to have children.

Phyna had earlier sparked conversations online after stating that she would rather raise pets than become a biological mother, a comment that quickly drew criticism from social media users who questioned her stance.

Reacting to the wave of insults, the actress and influencer described the judgment as unfair and accused many Nigerians of holding outdated beliefs about womanhood and motherhood.

She expressed frustration over how people rushed to label her a failure simply because she chose not to have children, insisting that her decision is personal and rooted in her life experiences.

According to her, her childhood played a major role in shaping how she views parenting, revealing that she is afraid of becoming the kind of parent she had while growing up.

Phyna explained that the fear of repeating painful patterns from her upbringing has made her unwilling to bring a child into the world unless she feels emotionally ready for that responsibility.

She said she would rather remain child-free than risk becoming a parent she herself would not have wanted.

“Dumb country people, so me not wanting a child is what makes me a failure and resulting to all this insults na… y’all brains is still stuck in the 60’s era,” she wrote.

She added that many critics fail to understand the emotional reasons behind such decisions and simply judge based on societal expectations.

“Me wey dem born how them take care of me. I don’t want to bring a child in. I’m scared of becoming a parent like the one I had… and that’s on period,” she stated.

Her comments have since triggered mixed reactions online, with some people supporting her honesty and right to make personal life choices, while others insisted that motherhood remains an important part of womanhood.

The debate continues to generate strong opinions, especially around issues of parenting, trauma, and the pressure society places on women regarding marriage and childbirth.
