The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory Council, has congratulated former National President of the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Comrade Evelyn Onyilo, on receiving the prestigious African Leadership, Strategic, and Development Award.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday and signed by the Council’s Secretary, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, the NUJ described the award as a recognition of Onyilo’s “exceptional leadership, visionary contributions, and unwavering commitment to the growth of journalism, good governance, and sustainable development across the African continent.”
The Council noted that Onyilo’s service to journalism and society has continued well beyond her time in office, further cementing her reputation as “a strategic leader and development ambassador whose influence transcends borders.”
“This honour is not only a personal achievement for Evelyn Onyilo but also a source of pride for the entire journalism family in the Federal Capital Territory and Nigeria at large,” the statement read.
Oyekunle added that Onyilo’s recognition “reinforces the enduring value of ethical leadership, dedication, and integrity in nation-building. We believe this award will inspire and motivate her to do even more for humanity and younger generations who see her as a role model and source of inspiration.”
