Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has congratulated Ambassador Cheikh Niang on his appointment as Senegal’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs.
In a goodwill message by the Spokesperson of the Ministry, Kimiebi Ebienfa, on Tuesday in Abuja, Tuggar praised Niang’s distinguished diplomatic career and expressed optimism that his wealth of international experience would greatly benefit Senegal and the West African region.
Before his new role, Niang served as Senegal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations. He has also held several high-profile postings, including Ambassador to Japan, the United States, and South Africa, as well as Consul General in New York.
According to Tuggar, Nigeria looked forward to deepening its historic ties with Senegal under Niang’s stewardship. He described the relationship between the two nations as “strong, vibrant and mutually beneficial,” adding that closer cooperation would serve the interests of both peoples.
