16-year-old girl arraigned over death of lover in Osun

A 16-year-old girl, Moni Cheris Favour, has been arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun state, over alleged death of one of her lovers.

The prosecutor, Adejola Adesuyi, Tuesday told the court that the defendant collected the money realised from the proceeds of mobile phone of Kazeem Wahab, the deceased.

The charge sheet reads: “That you, Moni Cherish Favour ‘F’ on or about the 3rd day of July 2024, at about 11:00pm at Adeleke Estate, Okinni, Osun state and in the Osogbo Magisterial District, did in a manner so rash and/or omit to take precaution against probable danger, by engaging in a romantic relationship with two individuals at a particular time which caused or resulted in a fight between both individuals and later led to the death of one Kazeem Wahab ‘m’, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 343 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II laws of Osun state of Nigeria 2002.

“That you Moni Cherish Favour ‘F’ on the same date, time, place and in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did unlawfully receive from one, the sum of N90,000 being proceeds realised from the sale of a stolen iPhone belonging to one Kazeem Wahab ‘m’ and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 427 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.”

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the two count charges allegations preferred against her by the police.

Sad! Truck Loses Control, Kills Three Policemen, Female Suspect In Ondo State

A truck descending the Ore Bridge on Friday rammed into a police vehicle, killing three policemen and a female suspect in Ore, Odigbo Local Council Area of Ondo State.

The policemen, part of the monitoring unit of the state police command, had left Akure to effect an arrest in Ore before the fatal accident occurred.

A source, who wished to remain anonymous, told Guardian that the victims died on the spot.

“With the heavy noise emanating from the accident, everyone rushed to the scene, and on getting there we realised that the occupants were policemen. Three of them died on the spot, and one sustained injuries,” he said.

“The one that sustained injuries was rushed to the hospital. It was later that we had information that the lady that also died in the accident was a suspect who the police officers had come to arrest from Akure.”.

The State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) also stated that a report on the accident would soon be issued.

Police Arrest Suspected Notorious Kidnap Leader In Rivers, Rescue 10-yr-old baby

The Police Command in Rivers has announced the arrest of Nwile Bete, 30, a suspected kidnap kingpin during an operation in Port Harcourt.

The operation also led to the rescue of a 10-year-old boy allegedly abducted by the suspect.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Friday.

She said that Bete allegedly kidnapped the boy on Nov. 25 and demanded a ransom of N5m for his release.

“After the minor was abducted, his mother reported the incident to the police, prompting the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to take swift action,” Iringe-Koko said.

She explained that officers, acting on credible intelligence, tracked Bete to Rumuekeni School Road in Rumuekeni Town, Port Harcourt, where he was apprehended.

“While in custody, Bete confessed to the crime and subsequently led operatives to Sogho village in Khana area, where the boy was rescued unharmed.

“The victim has since been debriefed and reunited with his family, while the suspect remains in custody,” she added.

Iringe-Koko confirmed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the other members of Bete’s gang who are currently at large.

She assured that the suspect would face charges in court upon conclusion of the investigation.

“This arrest is a significant breakthrough and part of the police command’s broader strategy to tackle crime and criminal activities in Rivers state,” she said. (NAN)

Three police officers, female suspect die in Ondo auto accident

Three police officers and a female suspect have been confirmed dead in a road accident that occurred in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The police officers were deployed from the state police headquarters to arrest the female suspect in Ore.

It was on their way to Akure that a trailer coming from the Ijebu-Ode axis lost control and rammed into the police van conveying the late officers and the suspect.

All of them died on the spot while a policeman who sustained serious injuries was rushed to the hospital

Police spokesperson, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed the incident.

The Ondo Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC),  Samuel Ibitoye, who confirmed the incident, said the accident occurred as a result of overspending.

He said the remains of the victims were deposited in the morgue of state the state hospital in Ore.
