ADC-led coalition good for democracy – Gbajabiamila

The Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has said the African Democratic Congress–led opposition coalition is good for the country’s democracy, and will prevent the country from becoming a one-party state.

Gbajabiamila stated this while speaking to journalists after casting his vote at Elizabeth Fowler Memorial Primary School during Saturday’s Lagos State local government election.

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives described the adoption of ADC by the coalition as a healthy sign for democracy and a move that could promote broader political engagement across the country’s multi-party system.

“It is a welcome development. It is not the first time we are seeing this. In every democracy, we must have some level of opposition; otherwise, we will run into a one-party state,” he said.

He, however, expressed skepticism about the future and effectiveness of the coalition formed around the ADC.

“However, for whatever the coalition is worth, I am not sure where it will go — that is, if it will go anywhere,” he said.

Earlier this month, leaders of the coalition convened at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, where they formally adopted the ADC as their platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

The event saw Ralph Nwosu hand over the party’s membership card to David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, who were introduced as the interim national chairman and national secretary, respectively.
