Former Big Brother Naija housemate Kess has opened up about the challenges contestants may face after leaving the reality television show, saying life can become significantly more complicated once the cameras stop rolling.

Kess made the observation while reacting to recent comments by fellow former housemate Danboskid, who publicly discussed some of the personal difficulties he has experienced since leaving the show.

According to Kess, the challenges associated with life after BBNaija are not necessarily determined by whether a contestant wins the competition or exits without the grand prize.

He explained that the experience of being on the reality show can change a contestant’s life in ways that may bring additional pressure and expectations after returning to the outside world.

Kess said the transition from the highly publicised environment of the BBNaija house to normal life can be difficult, particularly as former housemates have to deal with increased public attention and expectations.

His comments came after Danboskid, whose real name is Daniel Olatunji, spoke about his current circumstances and acknowledged that things had not gone as smoothly as he would have wanted.

Danboskid reportedly said he was tired of trying to maintain an image created for him by others and wanted to be more open about his actual situation as he works towards rebuilding his life.

The former housemate also made it clear that he was not seeking pity or financial assistance, but would welcome genuine advice and support.

Reacting to the development, Kess suggested that Danboskid’s experience was an example of the difficulties some reality stars can encounter after leaving the programme.

He maintained that participation in BBNaija can bring opportunities and visibility, but can also introduce pressures that contestants may not have experienced before appearing on the show.

Kess’s remarks have drawn attention to the often-overlooked realities of life after reality television, as former housemates attempt to turn their newfound popularity into sustainable careers and personal stability.

Nigerian comedian, writer, actor and filmmaker Bovi has revealed why he rejected several acting opportunities early in his career, saying he was determined not to be restricted to a particular type of character.

Speaking during an appearance on the CreativiTea podcast, Bovi recalled that the offers began coming after his breakthrough performance as a rustic “Warri boy” in the 2007 comedy series Extended Family, which he created.

According to him, many of the acting roles he was subsequently offered were variations of the same character or involved limited parts, including roles such as a gateman.

Bovi said he deliberately turned down the opportunities because he believed he had greater versatility and did not want his career to become defined by the character that initially brought him recognition.

The comedian explained that his exposure to television from a young age, as well as his interest in the way Hollywood and Bollywood developed actors and characters, influenced his decision.

He said he understood early that accepting similar roles repeatedly could result in him being stereotyped and limit the direction of his career.

Bovi added that he had made a conscious decision since his teenage years not to allow one character to determine how audiences and the industry viewed him as an actor.

According to him, that principle remains relevant to his career today, as he continues to reject roles that do not reflect the level of versatility he wants to demonstrate.

His comments highlight the challenges actors can face when a successful character becomes closely associated with their public image, potentially influencing the types of roles they are offered.

Bovi maintained that while opportunities are important, protecting his creative range and building a career beyond a single character remain priorities for him.

Grammy Award-winning American jazz singer Cassandra Wilson died on Wednesday in her hometown of Jackson, Mississippi, her manager said. She was 70.

“Cassandra Wilson transitioned peacefully at home, surrounded by family, close friends, and her manager,” Robert Torre wrote in a statement, hailing her as a “legendary jazz artist.”

The statement did not disclose a cause of death. Wilson’s family and close friends asked for privacy, Torre said.

A singer-songwriter and producer, Wilson was celebrated for her rich, expressive contralto voice in a career spanning three decades.

In 1997, the singer received the Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Performance with “New Moon Daughter,” and “Loverly” won the award for Best Jazz Vocal Album in 2009.

Wilson performed in a leading role in “Blood on the Fields,” a 1997 oratorio by Wynton Marsalis which became the first jazz work to win a Pulitzer Prize.

She also collaborated with saxophonists Steve Coleman, Greg Osby and hip-hop group The Roots.

“I learned so much from her, and I am so sad she has passed away,” musician Jon Batiste wrote in a tribute on social media.

“She had an unmistakable vocal tone, phrasing, and her approach of weaving folkloric, R&B, and diasporic music together with experimental and popular genres had a major impact on me.

“She sounded like the South.”
