Three members of parliament from Côte d’Ivoire have formally taken their leave of the ECOWAS Parliament during the First Ordinary Session of 2026 in Abuja.
The departing legislators Hon. Sako Mamadou, Hon. Aka Herve and Hon. Ake Yapo Germain, appeared together before the chamber, marking the close of their tenure at the regional assembly. 
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Sako Mamadou looked back on their time in the parliament, recalling a period shaped by rigorous debates and collective effort. He highlighted that, despite differing views, their work had consistently been driven by a shared commitment to advancing democratic values, peace and development across West Africa.
“We are leaving with the feeling that we have modestly contributed,” Sako said, acknowledging that the trio had done their part despite the many challenges still facing the region.
“But we are convinced that, thanks to your commitment and the determination of the newly sworn-in MPs, the work will continue with rigor and passion”, he added.
Addressing their former colleagues directly, Sako said:
“To our colleagues, we express our profound gratitude for the quality of the human relationships, the spirit of fraternity, and the constructive collaboration that have marked our shared journey. These bonds, woven over time, will remain precious and lasting for us.”
The Ivorian lawmakers also extended their best wishes to the incoming MPs who will now carry Côte d’Ivoire’s voice in the Parliament.
“We have faith in their ability to continue the work undertaken and to make a significant contribution to the ideals of ECOWAS,” Sako emphasised.
