Fresh details emerged surrounding the sudden death of former Southampton F.C. youth player Victor Udoh, following reports that some of his close associates have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Udoh, a 21-year-old footballer who previously featured for Royal Antwerp F.C., reportedly died earlier this week in Abuja under circumstances described by sources as suspicious.

According to Paris-based sports journalist Ojora Babatunde, the late footballer was believed to have died from suspected food or alcohol poisoning while spending time in Abuja during a holiday visit.

Sharing details of the development on X, Babatunde wrote:

According to multiple reports, former Southampton F.C. and Royal Antwerp F.C. winger, Victor Udoh reportedly died in Abuja last night following suspected food or alcohol poisoning.

“The 21-year-old winger was believed to be on holiday at the time of the incident.”

The journalist further disclosed that the player’s mother had reportedly taken legal steps following the tragedy, leading to the arrest of some individuals close to the deceased.

“Developing story: Victor Udoh’s mother has reportedly had the deceased’s friends and girlfriend arrested in Abuja,” he added.

The arrests have intensified public speculation surrounding the circumstances of Udoh’s death, with many Nigerians on social media demanding a thorough investigation into the incident.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to release an official statement confirming the cause of death or the status of the reported arrests.

The tragic development has also triggered an outpouring of grief among football fans and supporters, many of whom described Udoh as a promising young talent whose career was still unfolding.

Ex- President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, has appeled to Nigerians to join hands and take action to ensure the country becomes better.

Jonathan made the call on Wednesday in his message to Nigerians on the occasion of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir.

Ex-Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has formally resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress, in a move that signals a major political shift in Delta State ahead of future elections.

In a statement released on his social media pages and signed by his media aide, Sunday Areh, Omo-Agege said the resignation takes immediate effect. He attributed his decision to consultations with political allies and supporters following recent developments within the APC in Delta State.

According to him, the current situation within the party no longer aligns with his political objectives or the interests of his constituents, adding that he would pursue his goals outside the ruling party.

“I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria,” he said.

He also expressed appreciation to the APC for the opportunity to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate, while requesting that his name be removed from all party membership records, registers, and communication lists.

The former lawmaker, who lost his Senate ticket ahead of the next electoral cycle, said his focus remains on delivering effective representation and development for Delta Central, Delta State, and Nigeria. He added that he remains committed to those goals, even outside the APC.

His resignation is expected to further reshape political alignments in Delta State as parties begin early positioning ahead of upcoming elections.
