Ex – Chelsea boss, Lampard announced as new Coventry City boss
Frank Lampard has been announced as the new Coventry City head coach following a year-and-a-half away from management.
Lampard’s return to management has been confirmed by Championship side Coventry, who have appointed the England and Chelsea legend on a two-and-a-half-year deal. The 46-year-old has been without a job since 2023 but is now being called to action by the struggling Sky Blues.
Coventry have won just four of their 17 games so far in 2024-25, which led to the sacking of Mark Robins. Sitting just two points above the drop zone, Lampard will be eager to get straight to work and push the club much higher up the table.
Club owner Doug King said in a statement: “I am delighted that Frank Lampard has agreed to join our club as Head Coach. Frank cut his teeth in the Championship and knows what is needed in this League to be successful. His experiences thereafter at Chelsea and Everton will ensure he brings to our talented squad clear understanding of exactly what is needed to succeed at the very top level that we as a Club are striving to reach.”
Lampard’s last experience as a manager came as Chelsea’s interim boss, seeing out the 2022-23 campaign at Stamford Bridge. He has also managed at Derby and Everton, meaning he returns to the Championship vastly more experienced than when he started his managerial journey with the Rams in 2018. It was only 18 months ago that Coventry made it to the play-off final and Lampard would love nothing more than to get them back into a position that would allow them to challenge for a place in the Premier League once again.
A press conference is set to be held on Thursday afternoon for Lampard to make his first appearance as Coventry manager. He will then get his first taste of life in the dugout when the club host Cardiff on Saturday

Bayern Munich Apologise To PSG For Offensive Banners
Bayern Munich apologised to Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday for the presence of banners with offensive messages aimed at the French club’s president Nasser al-Khelaifi during their Champions League clash.
PSG visited Bayern’s Allianz Arena on Tuesday and a section of the home support unveiled a banner with a profanity aimed at the “plutocratic Al-Khelaifi”.
A separate banner with a picture of Al-Khelaifi’s head crossed out was also displayed, as well as two banners reading “Minister, club owner, TV rights holder, UEFA EXCO member & ECA chairman all in one”.
Some Bayern fans also reportedly sang insulting chants about the French club itself after the match, which the hosts won 1-0.
“FC Bayern would like to apologise when its opponents and their representatives in its stadium feel personally attacked in this manner and tone and are offended as a result,” read a statement on Bayern’s website.
“The club would like to make it clear that these banners were not authorised by FC Bayern and do not reflect its stance.”
“They are not in keeping with the good and long-standing relationship between the two clubs. The tone of these banners also goes against the style of FC Bayern and the respectful relationship the club has with its international partners,” the Bavarian club added.
Al-Khelaifi became president of PSG in 2011, following the acquisition of the club by Qatar Sports Investments (QSI).
The 51-year-old has also been the president of the European Club Association since April 2021, and was reelected in September of last year on a four-year mandate.
In addition, Al-Khelaifi is the chair of beIN Media Group, which holds distribution rights for various football competitions, including France’s Ligue 1 and Germany’s Bundesliga.
QSI is a subsidiary of the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) — the country’s sovereign wealth fund which has assets worth hundreds of billions of dollars.

Just in: Man city wobbles after 3-0 lead as Feynoord from behind equalises
Manchester City’s players were booed by their own fans Tuesday after blowing a three-goal lead against Feyenoord in the Champions League to extend their winless run to six games.
Jeers rang around the Etihad Stadium after the final whistle of a dramatic 3-3 draw.
“They are disappointed. Of course we understand it,” City manager Pep Guardiola said. “They are completely right to express what they feel.”
After five-straight losses in all competitions, City looked to be cruising to victory after going three up inside 50 minutes. But Feyenoord mounted an improbable comeback and leveled the game in the 89th to leave the home crowd stunned.
While the worst losing streak of Guardiola’s managerial career was brought to an end, his wait for a first win since Oct. 26 goes on.
Erling Haaland had scored twice, with Ilkay Gundogan also on target to put City in control. But goals from Anis Hadj Moussa in the 75th, Santiago Gimenez in the 82nd and David Hancko in the 89th turned the game on its head.
According to stats supplier Opta, it was the first time in Guardiola’s managerial career that his team had failed to win a game after leading 3-0. It said it was the first time City had failed to win from that position since 1989.
“We lost a lot of games lately, we are fragile and of course we need a victory,” Guardiola said. “The game was good for the confidence, we were playing a good level, but the first time something happened we had problems.”
A win would have moved City up to fifth in the Champions League standings, but the draw left it 15th with three games remaining in the first phase of the competition.
The top eight teams advance to the round of 16, while teams ranked ninth to 24th go into a playoff.
City’s players, including Bernardo Silva, Josko Gvardiol and Haaland looked visibly frustrated as they left the field to cheers from the delirious traveling Dutch fans in the away section of the stadium.
“If you are 3-0 up at home you can never give it away like this. It is what it is at the moment. The only thing we can do is fight back and stay strong,” City defender Nathan Ake said.
City plays Premier League leader Liverpool on Sunday — defeat would leave it 11 points adrift of its title rival.
“We will learn for the future. It has been and will be a tough season for us and we have to accept it,” said Guardiola, who had a cut on his nose during the game. He said it had been caused when he scratched it with his fingernail.

UCL: Vinicius slams UEFA as he misses Liverpool vs Real Madrid clash
Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior has hit out at UEFA after picking up an injury that rules him out of Wednesday night’s Champions League clash at Liverpool.
The LaLiga champions have confirmed that Vinicius has a hamstring problem and will miss the next three weeks of action.
The Brazilian has now lashed out at the packed fixture list.
Vinicius took a full part in their 3-0 win against Leganes on Sunday but will not travel to Merseyside due to “an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg.”
In a message on social media, Vinicius pointed the finger of blame at executives behind a hectic fixture schedule that has most notably seen UEFA expand the Champions League by at least two matches, writing: “Crazy calendar. Time to recover.”
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti will also be without Lucas Vazquez and Aurelien Tchouameni for the match.
