The Nigerian Navy has nabbed a member of a motor theft syndicate linked to more than 50 stolen vehicles across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
This is contained in an operational report made available to journalists on Thursday in Abuja by the Director of Naval Information, Capt. Abiodun Folorunsho.
Folorunsho said Naval Base Abuja operatives carried out the operation as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the FCT’s security architecture through intelligence-led operations in collaboration with sister agencies.
According to him, the suspect was intercepted while attempting to leave the FCT.
“Preliminary investigations reveal that he allegedly impersonated an Inspector of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCos) to facilitate his criminal activities.
“He has confessed to his involvement in a vehicle theft syndicate responsible for stealing vehicles from different parts of the FCT.”
The Director of Naval Information also said that investigations revealed that the criminal network operated across state boundaries with stolen vehicles reportedly disposed of through accomplices outside the FCT.
He said that efforts were ongoing in collaboration with other relevant security agencies to apprehend other members of the syndicate.
“The suspect, together with relevant exhibits and evidence, has been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, FCT Command, for further investigation and prosecution in accordance with established inter-agency procedures,” he said.
The naval spokesperson reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to strengthening inter-agency cooperation to support national security and ensure a safe and secure environment for all Nigerians.

Sad commentary: ‘Go and cry now’ – Moroccan star mocks Senegal after Belgium defeat
Moroccan international Mohamed Chibi has mocked Senegal on Instagram after the West Africans’ exit from the 2026 tournament.
Senegal squandered a two-goal lead, ultimately losing 3-2 to Belgium during the extra-time of their Round of 32 match on Wednesday.
Chibi, who was not selected for Morocco’s 2026 squad by head coach Mohamed Ouahbi, seized this moment to mock Senegal.
He posted what seems to be a video clip from the match, displaying the final score, along with the caption: “go and cry now.”
The animosity may be rooted in the contentious Africa Cup of Nations final held on January 18, 2026, where Senegal and Morocco faced off. During this match, Senegal’s players left the field in protest over a disallowed goal and a VAR decision made in stoppage time.
The Lions of Teranga returned approximately 14 minutes later, and Edouard Mendy successfully saved Brahim Diaz’s penalty, resulting in a 0-0 score at full-time. However, as the match progressed into extra-time, Pape Gueye scored for Senegal, leading them to win the AFCON title.
Due to their temporary withdrawal from the game, Senegal was later stripped of their title, with Morocco being declared the champions, although Senegal has appealed this decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Chibi’s Instagram story, which takes a jab at Senegal, clearly indicates that the rivalry between the two teams remains intense. Morocco has advanced to the Round of 16 after defeating the Netherlands on penalties, while Senegal is heading home following a devastating defeat to Belgium.

Iyabo Obasanjo gives reasons for dumping APC
Daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Iyabo, has explained why she resigned from the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Iyabo disclosed that she resigned from the APC because she was upset that the party’s consensus candidate in Ogun State failed to keep the promises he made to her and her followers.
Speaking on the Morayo Show, she said: “I resigned from the APC because I was upset that the consensus candidate failed to keep the promises he made to me and my followers.”
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ogun State on Wednesday officially received former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, following her exit from the APC.
In January 2026, Iyabo Obasanjo returned to active politics after 15 years and joined the ruling APC, where she declared her ambition to run for governor.
However, on May 31, 2026, the former senator resigned from APC after losing the governorship ticket, citing disrespect, betrayal, and unfair treatment by the party’s leadership.

Nigeria may not survive another civil strife– Obasanjo
Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that Nigeria may not survive another civil war, noting that many of the conditions that triggered the Biafra war remain unresolved.
Obasanjo issued this warning on Wednesday at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta when he received a historical publication titled ‘Asaba Massacre’ from the Isama Ajie of Asaba, Chief Chuck Nduka-Eze.
The document detailed the killing of civilians in Asaba during the Nigerian Civil War.
The ex-Nigerian leader, while reflecting on his own role during the civil war, stated that he could not give a detailed account of the Asaba killings because the military operations in the area were under the command of the late Murtala Muhammed.
“The conditions that led to the Nigerian civil war years ago still remain unresolved.
“I was involved in the civil war, but whenever people ask me about the Asaba massacre, I always tell them I cannot give details because Murtala Muhammed was responsible for operations in that area,” he said.
According to the former leader, he had previously been questioned about Muhammed’s role during the conflict but maintained that he was not in a position to comment.
