The Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured residents of Abuja that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will ensure the completion of road projects, especially in the satellite towns so as to ensure better living conditions for the people, urging the residents to continue to support the President and pray for him.
The Minister, who was addressing some residents of villages along the road linking Bwari with Kubwa, who came out to welcome him during his inspection tour of the road on Wednesday, said the President’s main interest is for the people to be happy.
The Minister also declared that it would be very difficult for any opposition to win elections in the FCT against President Tinubu, in 2027.
Speaking to Journalists in Abuja shortly after ongoing projects inspection across satellite towns, the Minister cited massive infrastructure development and visible impact on residents’ lives.
Wike said the level of transformation under the current administration has won the confidence of the people.
Wike insisted that, “It is very difficult for anybody to win an election in the FCT against Mr. President,” he said. “Because to them, it is surprising what they have seen in their lives.”
The Minister attributed the growing support to the administration’s deliberate policy of extending development beyond the city centre to rural and satellite communities.
“We were told clearly that there is over-concentration of development in the city, and we must go to the satellite towns,” he said.
“These communities are part of Abuja, and their lives must also change”, he stated.
Wike, who expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of ongoing projects, said residents’ reactions across communities visited reflect the positive impact of the government’s interventions.
“You can see the happiness of the people. When the people are happy, you have no choice but to be happy,” he said.
He listed several road projects inspected in Karu, Apo – Kashi and Bwari to Kubwa, including major corridors spanning up to 30 kilometres, noting that many of the affected communities were experiencing such development for the first time.
According to him, “When I went to these areas, you could see that people had never witnessed this kind of infrastructure before. Now, economic activities will improve, and their lives will change”.
The Minister explained that improved road networks would reduce travel time and ease movement between satellite towns and the city centre.
“People can now live in places like Kuje and get to work in the city within 25 minutes. That is the kind of impact we are talking about,” he said.
He further disclosed that some of the projects would be completed and inaugurated as part of activities marking the President’s upcoming anniversary in office.
On concerns about the activities of real estate developers in the FCT, Wike dismissed calls for the establishment of a new regulatory agency, insisting that existing institutions are sufficient.
“The problem in Nigeria is the proliferation of agencies. Creating more agencies will not solve the problem,” he said.
According to him, the Department of Development Control already has the mandate to regulate physical planning and ensure compliance with the Abuja Master Plan.
“What is important is to strengthen existing structures. The FCT Administration can handle complaints and ensure that developers do not exploit innocent citizens,” he stated.
Wike assured residents that the administration would continue to act on reported cases of malpractice, including ensuring refunds where necessary.
“If there are complaints, we know what to do. We will ensure that the right thing is done,” he added.
The Minister also called for unity and continued support for the government, noting that national development requires collective effort.
Wike hinted that, “This is a period for everyone to work together and support the government. The focus is on improving Nigeria, particularly in the area of security”.
He expressed optimism that ongoing interventions would further enhance economic growth and improve living standards across the FCT.
“I wish everyone a happy Ramadan,” Wike added.

Senator Wadada promises to deepen legislative ties, stop inactivity
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Affairs, Senator Aliyu Wadada has promised to revive the committee’s activities after acknowledging concerns over its prolonged inactivity.
Wadada spoke on Thursday at the end of the committee’s meeting in Abuja.
Specifically, the chairman admitted that the committee had been underutilised, noting that it had met only once in the last three years.
He, however, said issues responsible for the situation had been identified during a closed-door session and would be addressed.
“Of course I feel concerned about it, but when we got into the details in a closed-door meeting, we got to know where the problems are, and they will all be taken care of. The committee will be as active as it should always be,” he said.
Commenting further, the chairman said the committee would focus on its core mandate of promoting and strengthening legislative relations between Nigeria’s National Assembly and parliamentary bodies across the world.
According to him, the committee will deepen engagement with regional and international legislative institutions, including the ECOWAS Parliament, the Pan-African Parliament, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), and other parliamentary organisations.
He disclosed that a new work plan had already been developed to guide the committee’s activities.
He added: “The direction is basically around the responsibilities of the committee, which is to promote and deepen legislative relationship within Nigeria and with other legislative bodies around the world”.
The chairman added that the committee’s first major activity would be a courtesy visit to the Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament in Nigeria as part of efforts to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation.
SINL NIgeria Online reports that Senator Wadada assured that the public would be kept informed of the committee’s activities as the new work plan is implemented.

Just in: FG jerks up salaries soldiers to N100k monthly
The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has revealed that the minimum monthly salary of Nigerian soldiers has increased to N100,000 after the Federal Government reviewed their welfare package.
Musa made the disclosure during an interview with News Central ahead of his appearance on the NC Exclusive programme.
He said the adjustment was part of efforts by the government to improve the living conditions of military personnel.

The former Chief of Defence Staff, however, said the country’s defence sector still requires more funding despite the improvement in soldiers’ earnings and welfare.
He stated that the current defence budget remains inadequate, adding that more resources are needed to effectively support the armed forces and their operations.
Musa explained that soldiers who previously earned about N49,000 monthly now receive at least N100,000 following the salary review carried out by the government.
The minister also called for tougher punishment for kidnappers, saying stronger measures are needed to reduce the increasing cases of abduction across Nigeria.
