Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that the three Bus and Taxi Terminals constructed by the FCT Administration (FCTA) will begin operation once the the Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement for the operations and management of the terminals is approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

Wike gave the assurance after he inspected some ongoing road projects in Abuja on Thursday.
Recall that the FCT Administration in 2024 began the construction of three bus terminals one each in Kugbo, Mabushi and Central Business District (CBD). The three terminals were awarded at the cost of N51 billion.
The Kugbo and Mabushi terminals have been completed and inaugurated in June 2025 to celebrate Tinubu’s second year in office, while the one in CBD is at the completion stage.
However, the completed terminals have remained un-operational since inauguration in June 2025.
The Minister explained that the terminals have not taken off because the qualified operators must be approved by FEC, adding that the contract was beyond ministerial approval.

He said that the procurement process had successfully passed through the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).
“After building the terminals we said we are not going to allow the Transport Secretariat to run it. It will be handled by private individuals who have the competence.
“It’s not as easy as we thought. It requires FEC’s approval, but I am confident that in the next FEC, the contracts will be presented for approval.
“So, we believe in the next FEC meeting it will be approved and once that is done, then. we will hit the road,” he said.
Wike had disclosed during the inauguration of the completed terminals that additional terminals would be constructed in Gwagwalada, Bwari and Kuje.
He explained that the bus and taxi terminals mark a significant milestone in FCTA’s efforts to modernise transportation infrastructure in the territory.
Wike added that the FCTA was also addressing the issue of indiscriminate parking on the roads.
According to him, the terminal will provide a safe and organised space for vehicles to park, thereby reducing congestion on the roads.
Also, Mr Biodun Otunola, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Planet Project Ltd, had explained that the Kugbo and Mabushi terminals were designed to process more than 10,000 passengers each, daily.
Otunola added that the terminals were also designed to accommodate 120 buses and taxis each, daily, for both intercity and intra-city travels.

He, however, said that the terminal under construction in the CBD was different, adding that it was essentially designed for intra-city operations.
On job opportunities, Otunola said that each of the three terminals would employ at least 100 persons.
He explained that people would be in the security department, some in the ticketing department, others in facility management, control room, electrical department, mechanical department, maintenance department, and bus control.
“It’s very huge. It’s like running a mini airport,” he said.
He, however, said that based on needs assessment, the FCT would need at least 12 bus and taxi terminals to cover significant parts of the territory.
“We will need one in Gwagwalada, one in Kuje in Gwarinpa, and Lugbe, including the city centre in places like Area 1, Area 3 in Garki, Wuse and other strategic locations,” he said.

Senator Wadada promises to deepen legislative ties, stop inactivity
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Affairs, Senator Aliyu Wadada has promised to revive the committee’s activities after acknowledging concerns over its prolonged inactivity.
Wadada spoke on Thursday at the end of the committee’s meeting in Abuja.
Specifically, the chairman admitted that the committee had been underutilised, noting that it had met only once in the last three years.
He, however, said issues responsible for the situation had been identified during a closed-door session and would be addressed.
“Of course I feel concerned about it, but when we got into the details in a closed-door meeting, we got to know where the problems are, and they will all be taken care of. The committee will be as active as it should always be,” he said.
Commenting further, the chairman said the committee would focus on its core mandate of promoting and strengthening legislative relations between Nigeria’s National Assembly and parliamentary bodies across the world.
According to him, the committee will deepen engagement with regional and international legislative institutions, including the ECOWAS Parliament, the Pan-African Parliament, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), and other parliamentary organisations.
He disclosed that a new work plan had already been developed to guide the committee’s activities.
He added: “The direction is basically around the responsibilities of the committee, which is to promote and deepen legislative relationship within Nigeria and with other legislative bodies around the world”.
The chairman added that the committee’s first major activity would be a courtesy visit to the Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament in Nigeria as part of efforts to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation.
SINL NIgeria Online reports that Senator Wadada assured that the public would be kept informed of the committee’s activities as the new work plan is implemented.

Just in: FG jerks up salaries soldiers to N100k monthly
The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has revealed that the minimum monthly salary of Nigerian soldiers has increased to N100,000 after the Federal Government reviewed their welfare package.
Musa made the disclosure during an interview with News Central ahead of his appearance on the NC Exclusive programme.
He said the adjustment was part of efforts by the government to improve the living conditions of military personnel.

The former Chief of Defence Staff, however, said the country’s defence sector still requires more funding despite the improvement in soldiers’ earnings and welfare.
He stated that the current defence budget remains inadequate, adding that more resources are needed to effectively support the armed forces and their operations.
Musa explained that soldiers who previously earned about N49,000 monthly now receive at least N100,000 following the salary review carried out by the government.
The minister also called for tougher punishment for kidnappers, saying stronger measures are needed to reduce the increasing cases of abduction across Nigeria.
