The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) says it closed the registration of pilgrims for the 2025 Hajj on May 2 to enable it to concentrate on the airlift of pilgrims.
The commission said that any Hajj fare deposit received after May 2 would be duly refunded.
Hajia Fatima Usara, Assistant Director, Information and Publication Division, NAHCON, said this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.
According to Usara, an extension was earlier made possible through the intervention of NAHCON Chairman Prof. Abdullahi Saleh, despite closure of contract by March 25.
“Stoppage of further registration became necessary in order for the Commission to concentrate on airlifting pilgrims, with sufficient resources to ensure their comfort.
“Any Hajj fare deposit received after May 2 will be duly refunded.
“Meanwhile, movement to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj commences from May 9,” she said.
She said that the inaugural flight for this year’s Hajj was scheduled to take off from Owerri, with Gov. Hope Uzodinma of Imo as host.
The NAHCON spokesperson said that 315 pilgrims from Imo, Abia and Bayelsa were scheduled to board the Air Peace airline for the trip.
“Vice-President Kashim Shettima is expected to grace the occasion as Special Guest of Honour.
“Already, the NAHCON advance team arrived in Owerri earlier on May 7 to monitor preparations for the inaugural flight,” she said.
She said that registration for the 2025 Hajj ended with a record of 40,671 pilgrims.
“Four flights are scheduled to take off simultaneously on May 9 for the pilgrimage.
“The flights are expected as follows: Max Air from Bauchi, two Flynas flights, one from Kebbi and the other from Osun through the Lagos departure centre.
“There is a fourth flight from Niger, totalling 2,528 pilgrims to arrive in Madina on the first day.
Further details will be shared as the activities unfold,” she said.

Ex-IGP Adamu quits APC after losing party gubernatorial primary in Nasarawa
Former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after losing the party’s governorship primary in Nasarawa State.
Mr Adamu lost the governorship ticket to Senator Ahmed Wadada after polling a total of 49,675 votes in the exercise. Mr Wadada secured 195, 285 votes to emerge the party’s governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former IGP later expressed his concerns over alleged attempts to manipulate the outcome of the election.
In a letter addressed to the APC executives in Makama ward in Lafia on Monday, Mr Adamu said his decision to leave the ruling APC was driven by alleged irregularities in the election.
He stated, “Today I addressed my Letter to you the ward executives especially the ward chairman of my decision to resign from the All Progressives Congress (APC), with immediate effect.
“This decision was not taken lightly however, recent developments within the party especially the conduct of the governorship primary election processes in Nasarawa state have made it difficult for me to continue with my political activities under the platform of the party.”
He noted that the exercise fell short of transparency and equal opportunity that should guide the affairs of any democratic party.
“I strongly believe that internal democracy, fairness, transparency and equal opportunity for aspirants and members guide the affairs of any democratic political party”
“Unfortunately the event surrounding the primary election did not reflect this principle and have led to loss of confidence in the party’s leadership and the processes in the state,” the ex-IGP explained.
Mr Adamu thanked members of the party for their support and vowed to pursue his political aspirations through another platform.

Ex-Katsina Governor’s Aide Nura Aliyu Arrested for Masterminding Abduction of 8-Year-Old Boy Set To Contest For State House of Assembly Seat Under APC
The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a former Senior Special Assistant to the Katsina State Governor on Community Development Programme (CDP), Nura Aliyu, for allegedly masterminding the abduction of an eight-year-old boy.
Aliyu, 39, was arrested alongside five other suspects over their alleged involvement in the kidnapping incident, according to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu.
Although the police statement did not specifically confirm his former role under Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, investigations indicated that Aliyu previously served in the position before resigning to contest for the Batsari Constituency seat in the Katsina State House of Assembly.
The police said the victim was abducted on May 13, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m. while returning from an Islamic school in the area.
According to the Command, the suspects later contacted the victim’s family the following day and demanded a ransom of N50 million for his release. After negotiations, the family reportedly paid N17 million before the child was freed.
The police spokesperson added that during investigation, operatives recovered N7.5 million from the suspects, part of the ransom paid, along with a Peugeot 307 car and a Boxer motorcycle, among other exhibits.
He also disclosed that the suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation and named one Abdul, currently at large, as a member of the syndicate.
“In response to the report, operatives of the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Command swung into action. Acting on credible intelligence, operatives tracked and arrested six members of the syndicate on May 23, 2026,” the statement said.
The suspects arrested include Nura Aliyu, Abubakar Aminu, Ibrahim Muhammad, Iliyasu Sani, Abubakar Muhammad, and Abdullahi Isma’il.
The Command said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect, while commending the operatives for what it described as a swift and intelligence-driven operation.
Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage, reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes, adding that the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.

Primaries:”You’ve no right to declare winners, APC chairman tells state primary electotoral chairmen, insists only NWC can declare winners
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has declared that no state chapter or electoral committee of the party has the authority to announce winners of the party’s ongoing primary elections, insisting that only the National Working Committee (NWC) can ratify and officially declare results.
Yilwatda made the clarification on Sunday night in an interview with a national tv station.
According to the APC chairman, all results from the primaries conducted across the country must be transmitted to the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, where the NWC will carry out final verification before any winner is officially recognized.
“The states cannot announce winners until the NWC gives its verdict,” he stated during the live interview, stressing that the party’s constitution and internal guidelines place the final authority for primary election declarations on the national leadership.
The directive effectively nullifies several results already announced by state chapters and local collation committees following the recently concluded primaries.
The development comes amid growing controversies trailing the APC primaries in some states, with allegations of irregularities and manipulation emerging from different camps.
